It was late October, the sun was setting, and we were driving to Mt. Rainier. Arriving at the park just after dusk, we were greeted by a massive black bear running along the road. (It is a good idea to drive under the recommended speed limit at night!) In the clearing near the trail head, we caught an amazing view of the mountain and sky. Then began the hike up to Reflection Lake. Standing before this mighty giant was a sight to behold. My favorite part of the trip had to be dawn. The hues of blue in the sky, the sun slowing shifting down the mountain's side; it was very surreal. After 24 hours+ no sleep, we made it back down the trail to take a well deserved nap, although I think what I really wanted to do at that point was go for a long winter's hibernation!
